We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Based our our review of the latest in biotech videos and news there were quite a few taking some time off for the holidaze and giving thanks — this, we consider a good thing.
So … here’s our short post for those heading back to work on a Monday-after-Thanksgiving-morning … our video roundup …
PHILOSOPHY, ETHICS, AND BIOTECH – How is your Thomas Acquinas? Rusty? If so you’ll enjoy this hour long lecture by Steve Meredith, professor of pathology and the biological sciences at The University of Chicago. According to the post, “despite flaws in his biology, Aquinas’ writings offer us guidance in our approach to 21st century biotechnology. Aquinas’ notion of a Just War provides us with a way for thinking about biotechnology, since both use morally ambiguous means to address evils in an imperfect world.’ Do you agree with Dr. Meredith? Disagree?
JENNIFLEUR FAVORITES – If you’re not familiar with Jennifleur.tv you should check it out. We stumbled up the site this week in our video recap. Not sure exactly who’s behind it but it is clearly biotech-friendly. Check out the video from Lord Taverne of the UK House of Lords and Brazilian Luciana di Cierno. Interesting testimonials.
BOSTON LOVES BIOTECH – Massachusetts’ love affair with biotechnology is the theme of this video produced by the Boston University Statehouse Program and voiced by Justin Meisinge.
MONSANTO’S SHOUT OUT TO THE AMERICAN FARMER – That’s the thrust of this animated powerpoint by Monsanto. Numbers put to music.
BOULDER MEANS BIOTECH – We see more and more videos put out by local jurisdictions promoting biotech and their support thereof (see the piece above from Boston University). This Boulder County Business Report video is part of roundtable discussions with various industry CEOs every month. This interview was conducted immediately following the roundtable in November. The topic revolved around the health-care industry in the Boulder Valley.
DON’T FORGET MARYLAND – In addition to Massachusetts and Colorado, Maryland’s Montgomery College in the I-270 corridor had its own video promo. According to them, “The Future of Health Care Starts at Montgomery College.” Sign me up.
BEAKER BEAT’S ROUNDUP – And freaky picture. BeakerBeat’s Turkey day roundup features a picture you don’t want to see if you’ve got a fear of needles.
